I was diagnosed with psoriasis about four years ago. It started out with just dry skin on my elbows and knees. But then, in 2006 I really broke out. I was about 80% covered. My psoriasis was so bad that it would crack and bleed. I tried the light booth and creams for a while until it got so bad that I could barely get out of bed in the morning. At that time my doctor introduced me to a biologic—it’s a shot that you inject under your skin. I have been on the shot for about a year now, and my psoriasis has cleared up very well. I continue to take the shot once a week and to apply my creams every day.
Throughout this time, I have been in the military. I joined seven years ago, and I have served in Iraq. My psoriasis comes from my mother’s side of the family and now that I have two amazing children, I fear that they will have it too.###
